(July 29 - 10:50 a.m.) When Jim Hilliker, LARadio historian, interviewed child silent movie actor Richard Headrick in 2001, he told Jim about his weekly broadcasts with John Daggett at KHJ between 1923 and ’27. “He said Daggett would cuss and swear like a sailor,” said Hilliker. “And sometimes, some of his saltier comments went out over the air, prompting a few phone calls and letters of complaint. He would also badmouth the mothers who came to KHJ to push their little kids into going on KHJ to sing, recite a poem, etc., saying most of the kids didn’t have any talent. But, the guy would be convincing on the air, giving listeners the feeling that he loved all the kiddies on his show. Daggett was quite popular in those days.”
