Silver on KABC Countdown Clock

Print E-mail

(July 28 - 7:33 a.m.) In Jack Silver’s initial video blog after taking over as program director at KABC, he reflected on the staff he inherited and a story appeared here yesterday. “I was just having fun with the video blog,” wrote Jack. “I already have done a couple more and will do them often. I didn't think you'd do a transcript of the blogs, but I'm glad you are paying attention... come back often for more.”

Tom Bernstein, former KNXer emailed: “To Jack Silver - Huh? If you're going to stand pat with that on-air mess, why did you take the job? I guess Don's countdown is over!”

Maybe they should have a little content in an hour. If you listen at all, they have 40 minutes of commercials and 15 minutes of actual reading to us, followed by 5 minutes of news. Impossible to listen to. Why not just go infomercial 24/7 and get it over with!?!

Although I strongly agree that the KABC slide has been both steady and dis-heartening to those of us who like talk shows...GIVE JACK A BREAK ! HE JUST GOT THERE! Jack is a nice guy and DOES listen to people. He also knows how to deal with depressing situations, because if I remember correctly, HE IS A CUBS FAN !

Jack Silver thinks "it's really a great line-up"? Has he listened to this station? The continual downward slide of KABC's ratings would indicate otherwise. Inviting listener suggestions about programming on KABC's website would be a good move. I'm not anticipating such a move, though, because even in its local programming KABC doesn't seem to want the input of callers. Tilden and Phillips seem to think that talk radio is a forum for a monologue, rather than a dialogue with listeners. Radio executives and hosts have forgotten the most important people in radio: the audience.

Apparently KABC languishing at number 27th in the ratings is a big joke to Jack Silver. This is really what I hate about radio management people. Him and all previous KABC programmers over the past decade have somehow thought they were smarter than the average listener in this town and that they knew what we wanted to listen to. Even after one failed move after another they still keep up the belief that they know best. Well pardon my language but that is plain and simply crap. KFI has been kicking KABC futher down the pipe and all management does is laugh about it. The arrogance of the whole bunch of them makes me sick.
