Silver Happy with KABC Line-Up

(July 27 - 7:29 a.m.) Jack Silver, KABC program director, delivered his first video blog with an air of lightness that he spent his first three days looking for the restrooms at the La Cienega compound. As far as the talk line-up, he praised them all, along with the Dodgers.

“I’m a huge Dodger fan,” revealed Silver. “I look forward to going to a lot of games and working with Vin Scully, Rick Monday and Charley Steiner and the whole crew. We’ll see you at Dodger Stadium.’

Silver then ran down the staff he inherited:

  • “Mornings with Peter Tilden and Mark Austin Thomas does the news and I think they do a great show.”
  • Frosty/Heidi & Frank are people I raised from a pup. They sound pretty good. I think they’ll continue to mold themselves into a great staple of this station.”
  • Sean Hannity and Mark Levin – what can you say about those guys. They’re amazing.”
  • John Phillips at night and Doug McIntyre.”

“It’s really a great line-up and I’m looking forward to meeting them all,” continued Silver. “No one’s come into my office. They can’t find this place. And day in and day out working on Topic A, Topic B, and Topic C so that every time you tune into the radio station, you hear the hottest stories.”

Stay local please. Drop Levin and Hannity and if you REALLY want good ratings bring in Phil Hendrie. Until you make some good honest changes, KABC will NEVER change.

Now, if the Dodgers would only move to an all sports station!

Listening to Michael Linder and John Phillips discussing the situation in Bell last night, they used the phrase "Heads on a stick" a few times, Why not get John and Ken on the phone and get all the info?

Mixed message department at KABC is hard at work. Bob Moore promises changes in 90 days, hires Silver who says “It’s really a great line-up and I’m looking forward to meeting them all.”

Tilden is a placeholder who is priced right; nobody is waiting to pick him up after KABC leaves him curbside. FH&F's whole show is that they DON'T discuss the news; they pay for their time, having some kind of deal where Frank Kramer complains that "every day I come in here I lose money!" Imus probably pays KABC, just to claim he is broadcast in the #2 market after failing everywhere else in L.A. Legacy syndicated Hannity has a contract. Levin has to be a freebie.

I am totally curious about Moe Ansari, who pays for the time on his brokered show. What are his ratings? Can't be much different than the rest of the station. Anyone?

Silver, make us proud and take a stiff broom to this carbuncle of a station!

Amen to you both, James and Pam. Remember when KABC proudly ran "imaging" spots touting its "Live and Local" programming? Where did that go? Tilden is fine but he sounds like he's talking to himself, and maybe he is, because there's no connection or interaction with callers; FH&F couldn't discuss the news seriously if their lives depended on it; Hannity and Levin are useful idiots for the Democrats who beat the same dead horse every hour, every day. John Phillips needs to mature, but he'll get there. Don Imus? Please! Why is this unintelligible grouch on the air? The Dodger team is great (as is Jorge Jarrin), and Doug McIntyre should have himself cloned so that KABC could have some diverse and intelligent programming, locally-based, 24 hours each day.

I have to agree. The only readon John and Ken get any numbers at all is because there is no competition at KABC. You can't find a worse on air host than Mark Levin! Change that, whatever it takes.

MEMO to Jack Silver. The reason KABC is in the toilet is because no one in Los Angeles wants to listen to New York hosts. Take for example yesterday. Arguably one of the most important story in recent memory was breaking in the city of Bell, California. All media outlets were there. I tuned to John and Ken and they were there interviewing people in front of city hall. I tuned to KABC and Levin was talking about the Lockerbie bomber and how our President may have had a hand in his release a year ago by Scottish authorities. Now Jack, please tell me which story do you think Los Angelinos care about and want to listen to? This is not a difficult question.
